How Senior Care Placement Works
All senior placement agencies — national and local — are paid the same way. Care Communities pay a referral fee from their marketing budget. This does not increase your cost, and it’s why placement help is usually free to families.
The Reality
Senior living communities can only compensate one advisor — the advisor who has the earliest documented engagement with the family. This is known as the timestamp rule, and it determines who is allowed to help you.
If you engage Lighthouse first, we can work with you in person.
If a national call center engages you first, they “claim” you — and Lighthouse may be unable to assist.
Filling out online forms for communities or franchises can also trigger a claim before we can help.
That’s why engaging Lighthouse early protects your access to our in‑person, pastoral guidance.
